Seek Wisdom Now

Proverbs 1 contains a stern warning from Wisdom personified: “How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? …If you would have responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you. But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand, since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke, I in turn will laugh at your disaster, I will mock when calamity overtakes you… they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.” (vs. 22-31, selected).

The point is that the time to gain wisdom is now! Because of God’s Grace we think we have all the time in the world to sort out our lives and to do what is right; but, Wisdom reminds us that time marches on, that calamity comes and that we reap what we have sown! If we have not bothered to take the time to lay the foundation of studying God’s Word or applying same to our lives – what hope do we have when our day of trouble comes? When there is need we will go to the pantry and find it barren because of our own neglect or sloth or willfulness.

Wisdom admonishes us to come NOW and fill our hearts and minds so that we may be prepared. With what resources shall I face my day? The answer depends upon my own choices: do I take the time now to study God’s Word and reflect upon it or do I attempt to muddle along on my own?

‘nuff said. Let’s get after it! Amen!
